Exhaustion

I, of course, immediately failed to write a journal entry every week. I’m not sure why I’m even surprised. I slept for almost 16 hours yesterday and still feel this tired; I don’t know what’s going on with me these days. I’ve been doing Uber on Friday/Saturday after clocking out of my regular job, and doing that for an additional 5-6 hours. My laptop now runs Prowlarr, qBittorrent WebUI, and SyncThing on top of the stuff it was already running. I now also just run latest Linux Mint Cinnamon Edition on both my desktop and laptop to keep things simpler…. Read moreExhaustion

Understatement

I’ve decided that I’m going to at least attempt to write one of these journal entries every week. If nothing else but as a splinter of my attempt at a mind map. Not much of importance has happened in meatspace. The work week in particular has been very slow. Given that it’s now mid-April, this is very concerning. I will start looking for alternative employment should the situation not change by mid-May. I’ve been putting a little work into backing things up. It seems that there is no reason not to use google’s storage since it’s on offer. OneDrive still… Read moreUnderstatement

Listlessness

It’s almost strange how empty I feel right now. A strong sense of listlessness, perhaps even apathy? I don’t know how this could have happened. Many things have happened since my last entry. I made it out of the situation I was in before. It took me literally leaving in the dead of night (2023-01-08 ~11pm to ~1am), going back to my previous living situation. While not ideal, was much better than the situation I found myself in. The “job” was essentially vaporware. While it did exist, it relied on the whims of a racist, ageist boomer with no ability… Read moreListlessness

Despair

I don’t know how I’m going to make it.I have completely exhausted my savings and available liquidity.Thanksgiving is less than a week away. Rent is due after that.Work has been so slow I don’t know how I’m going to pay ANY of my bills.I also have to have new car insurance by December 5, which is sure to be another several hundred dollars. I don’t think I’m going to make it. I’ve been drained dry and those greedy fucks that call themselves family want more more more more more. I cannot survive on making $25 a day from driving and… Read moreDespair

Part 3: Phone Emulation on GNU/Linux based systems

The objective of this article is to share my phone emulation setup, which works reasonably well for me, in the hopes that it is useful. This setup neatly solves the majority of “I’m unable to install certain apps!” problem that most have on Linux, by adding “ARM Translation” as part of the installation process. We do this because some phone apps are written for the ARM architecture exclusively. This is the major cause of being unable to run certain apps in genymotion. This is confirmed to work on Linux Mint 20 and Linux Mint 21. Your mileage may, but hopefully… Read morePart 3: Phone Emulation on GNU/Linux based systems

Week 6: Frozen Plasma – Artificial [2006]

I think for the next month I’ll share some things I listened to on repeat in my teenage years. We’ll start with Frozen Plasma – Artificial [available on spotify], which is an album I listened to on repeat in 2009-2010. I was experiencing the real world for the first time, and relating to these tracks is part of what got me through that period of my life. But you guys want to know my top 3, not hear about my personal problems. Here it is, for your viewing pleasure. Honestly, all of the songs on this album are great, despite Unborn… Read moreWeek 6: Frozen Plasma – Artificial [2006]

Week 5: Skinny Puppy – Too Dark Park [1990]

Let’s not pretend I was going to post Nine Inch Nails and then not post Skinny Puppy. Majiffy would shoot me. Skinny Puppy – Too Dark Park [available on spotify], is an amazing album. I almost always listen to this and Pretty Hate Machine together. Anywho, you guys are here for my top 3. I’m also not letting myself do an honorable mention this week because it would be summed up as “the rest of the album”. Boring.

Week 4: Nine Inch Nails – Pretty Hate Machine [1989]

Hopefully, I’m at least fashionable late on this one. I would like to put a spotlight on Nine Inch Nails – Pretty Hate Machine. [available on spotify]. This is one of the albums that shaped modern day Industrial music, and is an excellent album in it’s own right. Here are my top 3 tracks from the album: Honorable mention to Head Like a Hole for feeding that dark part of my mind that always wants revenge. This is one of my go-to albums to throw on in the background and has been for a couple of years now. Usually it… Read moreWeek 4: Nine Inch Nails – Pretty Hate Machine [1989]

Part 2: Fresh Windows Install (what to install)

Ninite is good for provisioning new software to a new computer, has a decent amount of software available, and is a very hassle-free way to install a set of software on a new windows machine. For a fresh install, I recommend the following software: Firefox, qBittorrent, 7-Zip, Zoom, Thunderbird, Discord, Steam, VLC, MusicBee, Silverlight, TeraCopy, IrfanView, Foxit Reader, LibreOffice, Dropbox, Spybot 2, Malwarebytes, Python 3, FileZilla, and Notepad++. I also provisionally recommend Everything, but would recommend you download and install it separately if you don’t want to be nagged on every startup for admin permission. For whatever reason Ninite doesn’t… Read morePart 2: Fresh Windows Install (what to install)

Part 1: uBlock Origin

If you are not using uBlock Origin at this point, you are doing something wrong. Advertising on the internet has been ballooning out of control in the past 10 years. So much so, that most corporate sites became heavily bloated messes Google had to rescue from themselves via AMP. If it is at all available to you, install uBlock Origin Extra as well. It makes it harder for 3rd party actors to pretend to be first party in regards to cookie and tracking. WordPress, alone, has at least 7 blocked entries per page; at least 10% of total requests. This… Read morePart 1: uBlock Origin
